Evan Calder Williams is a Ph.D. candidate in the Literature department of University of California Santa Cruz, where he is a writing a dissertation on cinema and communist thought in the 1970s. He is the author of Combined and Uneven Apocalypse (Zero Books, 2011) and The Roman Letters (forthcoming from Oslo Editions), and his work appears in Film Quarterly and Mute. Current research interests include ornament, dialectics, melodrama, and pessimism. He will be a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Naples in 2011-2012. He writes at Socialism and/or Barbarism.
